This is a fascinating post. I've read this and that about the 'Hen Ogledd' before, but have never come across the name 'Pabo' before. It may be coincidental, but Pabo does sound vaguely reminiscent of some variations of 'Paul', which would suggest a Christian influence.

It is interesting that he can be traced back to Coel. One further question I would have (and perhaps it is answered in your book, which sounds interesting), is whether this Pabo was any relation to the rulers of Rheged - notably Urien and his son Owain?

Pabo Post Prydain was not directly related to Urien of Rheged, but their families were contemporaries and sometimes rivals in the post-Roman North of Britain. Pabo was the father of Dynod (Dunod) Bwr. After Urien’s assassination, Dynod is said to have invaded Rheged and fought against Urien’s son Owain. Internecine strife between Celtic dynasties, I have come to understand, was endemic. I wrote about Pabo precisely because he is the sort of character that gets overlooked in conventional histories. Not surprisingly, big time historians are put off by the thinness of the sources of information.
